Regardless of whether you are a child or an adult, if you wish to become a devotee of Lord Guan and pray to him for peace and good fortune, tell him your name, age, and address. After this, humbly ask Lord Guan to accept you as a devotee. Finally, cast the red ‘crescent moon’ divination blocks to receive his response.
Once you receive a positive response, go to the temple office and register your personal information. After finishing the registration, a temple steward will give you a "Ping'an envelope for devotees," and blessed cake and rice (shui cake and shui mi).
Holding your ping'an envelope, reverently pay your respects and give thanks to the Five Saviors. Once you are registered as a devotee of Lord Guan, please come to the temple office each year on or near his birthday (24th day of the sixth lunar month), or at a convenient time, to re-register and receive a new ping'an envelope.
It is not necessary to cast divination blocks in order to change a new ping'an envelope.
Young men wishing to pray for safety during their period of military service may go directly to the temple office and ask a temple steward for a ping'an envelope for military service. It is not necessary to cast divination blocks.
After you receive your ping'an envelope, tell the Five Saviors your name, date and year of birth, address, service branch, and place where you are serving. Then pray to them for protection with good luck.
After you finish your military service, please return to Hsing Tian Kong and pay your respects and give thanks to the Five Saviors for their protection. You may also return your ping'an envelope to any of the three Hsing Tian Kong temples at that time.
Tell the Five Saviors your name, date and year of birth, address, license plate number, and the make and model of your vehicle. Then request a ping'an envelope for traffic safety, and cast a pair of divination blocks.
Once you receive a positive response, go to the temple office to receive your ping'an envelope for traffic safety. There is no need to register.
After you receive your ping'an envelope, hold it in your hands and reverently thank the Five Saviors. Remember always to abide by traffic regulations to ensure your safety on the road.
