Services of Prayers for Peace have their origin in the Han Dynasty Taoist star worship ceremonies performed to forestall calamity, ward off suffering, bring good fortune and grant longevity for participants. Spring and Autumn Services of Prayers for Peace are held at Hsing Tian Kong from the first to the ninth day of the third and ninth months of the lunar calendar. These prayers are held on behalf of the faithful for their families to remain safe and sound, and for the nation to be secure and at peace. During the ceremony, other religious services are suspended.
